Richmond: Virginia's Festival Capital

Throughout the year, Richmond is the setting for diverse festivals that range from folk music to street art, to everything in between, with a special hankering for ethnic food festivals.

Food Festivals

From the Carytown Watermelon Festival which draws over 100,000 attendees to the shopping district in late summer to Broad Appetite to the Brunswick Stew Festival, Richmond celebrates its food and beverages in high spirits. 

Music & Entertainment Festivals

The Richmond Folk Festival is the largest folk festival in the country, drawing over 200,000 attendees over a full weekend. The city also is known as a jazz capital, drawing some of the most highly acclaimed talent to the annual Jazz Festival each year. 

Cultural Festivals

From the yearly Indian Festival to the Church Hill Irish Festival to the Original Italian Street Festival, Richmond celebrates its ethnic diversity all year long.

Arts Festivals

First Fridays along Broad Street is one of the most popular art festivals in the region, and happens every month! Other major art events include Arts in the Park, the French Film Festival and the new RVA Street Art Festival.

Holiday Festivals

Richmond celebrates religious and national holidays in wonderful ways, from the one-of-a-kind Easter on Parade festival along Monument Avenue to the RVA Fireworks on the James during the 4th of July to the downtown Illumination to kick off the winter holiday season.
